“Find out?” I asked dazedly, though the spinning was beginning to cease as she pulled me through the crowd toward our next class.
“Yeah. Take you to a doctor or something.” She said, biting her lip and glancing toward me, worry crossing her face.
“I’m fine.” I said, pulling my hand away to cross my arms. “Really. I’ll just get some more sleep tonight.” Cameron sighed.
“But Maggie-”
“This doesn’t happen that often, okay?”
“It’s happened before?” She asked, her eyebrows raising. “What’s the matter with you? This could be a sign of…of…I don’t know! Some really bad medical condition!”
“I have an idea.” We turned to see Andrew behind us, I smiled a little, but quickly joined Cameron in frowning at him.
“What?” She asked sharply, crossing her arms at the tall boy. As her twin, he looked a lot like her. He had the same freckled complexion, the same naturally thin body that she had. His was just covered with more muscle, the type that blond cheerleaders fell in love with. His brown hair hung below his ears and into his eyes, which he constantly had to shake his head to get rid of. Their matching sharp noses, along with everything else, brought forth the question, “Are you two related?” Which they would reply to, mostly disgusted or disappointed that it was so.
“I think I might know why she’s fainting so much.” Andrew said, crossing his arms as well.
“I don’t faint ‘so much’,” I argued, planting my feet, “It just happens sometimes when I don’t get enough sleep-”
“That’s a lie.” Andrew said, matter-of-factly. He looked at me kinder, but then snapped back to stare at his sister.
“Just go away. It’s so embarrassing having to deal with my little brother at school-”
“I’m only younger than you by like…two minutes.” He said, giving an exasperated sigh. “I think I can help you guys-”
“Thanks, but no thanks.” Cameron said, turning to go. “Coming, Maggie?” I turned to Andrew and shrugged, then followed Cameron through the hallways to our next class.
“I just can’t stand him! Why were we born twins? Why is he so much more popular than me?” She complained as we took our seats.
Cameron was just that type of person. Nothing was good enough for her, which wasn’t made any better by the fact that her brother was so good looking and liked by almost everyone. She thought it was because of his looks, but in reality they were both really attractive. It was me who wasn’t.
My black hair was always frizzy, always getting in my eyes. My face didn’t tan like models’ or freckle nicely like the Glass’ family, it just burned in the sun. I was impossibly short, and always had to look up to everyone. Until I had gotten contacts, I was the exact stereotype of a nerd. How I ever managed to have Cameron as a friend was beyond me.
“He isn’t more popular than you.” I assured her as the teacher walked in to begin class. “Besides, you’re nicer, and get better grades than him. Who’s going to get farther in life?”
“I wish
